Our Curriculum Intent at Rye Park Nursery School
At Rye Park Nursery School our vision, ‘Nurturing every child to fulfil their potential’ is embedded throughout our ambitious and inclusive curriculum, we intend to provide every child with high quality learning experiences and opportunities, that develop their knowledge, skills and understanding to become effective life-long learners.
Our values ‘playing together, learning together, achieving together’ are at the heart of our pedagogical approach which is embedded in play and our inspirational learning environments, quality adult interactions, and partnership working with parents. We endeavour to give the children the Cultural Capital they need for future success and have high expectations for all and wish for every child to develop a love of learning and belief in themselves, and their abilities and capabilities.
Our planning in the moment approach is designed so that children experience all seven areas of learning through whole group, small group and continuous provision. We are passionate for the children to become effective communicators and create opportunities for them to develop their language and communication skills and increase their vocabulary.
Fundamental British values form an integral part of our curriculum and along with our values underpin everything that we do. Our aim is for children to leave us ready not only for the next stage of their education but as happy, positive members of their community and young global citizens.
Our Curriculum Implementation
At Rye Park we value the children and encourage them to demonstrate their attitudes and behaviours to learning through the characteristics of effective learning. We recognise children’s strengths and interests and plan sequentially so that prior learning is valued and built upon.
Our play-based approach, first-hand experiences, real-life opportunities and quality first teaching enables children to flourish in a safe and secure environment. Positive and nurturing relationships with keyworkers ensures that children’s needs are understood, assessed and planned for. Stimulating learning environments engage and motivate children to become curious explorers, challenging their thinking and enabling holistic development. Our curriculum is designed to be bespoke to meet the needs of all learners. Investment in high quality continuous professional development (CPD) supports expertise in pedagogical approaches and is matched to staff and cohort needs.
Language and communication are vital in all areas of a child’s development. We enhance our language rich environments with Makaton signing, poetry basket, story scribing, helicopter stories and core texts. Core texts inspire a love of books and reading.
Our curriculum is enriched through activities such as, cooking, yoga and mindfulness, as well as themed days and weeks and educational trips and visits.
Impact of our Curriculum
Formative and summative assessment practice and continual monitoring is used expertly by practitioners and leaders across the school to impact directly on children’s learning in the moment and progress overtime.
The impact of our curriculum is seen through:
- Children who demonstrate high levels of engagement during child initiated learning enabling them to incorporate their own ideas and interests
- Children whose experiences and sequential learning overtime builds the knowledge and skills ready for their future
- Children who demonstrate resilience and positive attitudes to and become highly effective independent and confident learners
- Children who make excellent progress including those disadvantaged and with SEND who experience an enriched and bespoke curriculum that enables them to achieve the best possible outcomes
- Children who value and respect one another, their community and the wider world
Consequently, children make strong progress and leave nursery ready for the next stage of their education.
